Is it just me or is it surreal to see M.I.A perform at the Superbowl? More power to her, I’m always curious to hear what she’s done, and she makes some really interesting music videos too. Here’s my new favorite:
Favorite new music video: M.I.A – Bad Girls
Katy B. “Katy On A Mission”
With this post, I know that England is saying, “welcome to one year ago”, but I love this song and wanted to link to it. Along with Adele, she was one of the nominees for the Mercury Music prize this year, which is a pretty big deal in the UK, especially for a debut album. I hope she’ll get a nice following here in the US, like her co-nominee and prove that talent can trump trashiness in popular music. Enjoy!
Kreayshawn!
This song goes out to my freshmaker tastemakers Aniqa and Vijay, they sent me a link to this video independently of each other because they are both GANGSTA! I like Kreayshawn, she’s got some catchy tunes, and a healthy dose of swagger, and I love her retro 80s b-girl style. Feast your eyes on Gucci Gucci, my favorite lines: “Bitch you ain’t no Barbie, I see you work at Arby’s, number 2, super size, hurry up I’m starving”. Damn. Enjoy.

Big Deal – Chair

I can’t stop listening to this song. I hope you’ll enjoy it and share it with your friends. A guitar teacher and his student form a band, and call themselves “Big Deal”, and they write this song which may or may not be autobiographical. It really doesn’t matter, they sound great. Enjoy!
…more about them in this nme article.
Tracy and the Plastics
The first time I watched this video, I thought this was a band made up of three girls, and during their banter I kept thinking, they speak in the same weird way. I didn’t notice that there’s a projection of 2 girls on a screen, with one live person interacting with the film. It’s by a performance artist/musician named Wynne Greenwood, and she plays three characters; Nikki (keyboards), Cola (drumbeats) and Tracy (singer) – and they all interact with each other, it’s really strange once you realize what’s happening. I guess I wasn’t paying attention (BECAUSE IT’S OBVIOUS!!!)
Anyway, here’s her video, jump to 58sec in, where the song begins. Enjoy!
tUnE-yArDs Live

Boy, it’s been a while since my last post, and though fewer than 5 people may every visit this page, it’s still worth updating it with music that’s exciting to me! Remember, music loves you!
Lana Del Rey: Blue Jeans
I got an email with a link to this young lady’s other video for a song called “Video Games” from my brother today. She’s definitely mixing things up in an interesting way, her lyrics are now, but her sound and imagery leans more towards the old, but without sounding forced because she sings so effortlessly. She reminds me of those old sixties sirens like Nancy Sinatra, or Marianne Faithfull, and should probably do a duet with Miranda Lee Richards, that would be so nice. Thanks bro!
Song of the Day: Legal Tender by B-52′s
A very old video from the B-52s for their song Legal Tender. I love the idea of writing a simple song about counterfeiting money, it would have never crossed my mind. After this video, scroll down further to see an “unofficial” video for 52 Girls, one of my favorite songs ever – I would have added an old performance instead, but embedding was turned off – boo (here’s the link anyway). Enjoy!

Song of the Day: Lions, Tigers & Bears by Jazmine Sullivan
Heard this voice leaking from my friend’s headphones and he told me her name is Jazmine Sullivan. This song is just focuses on her beautiful voice with some lush orchestration. The video is a bit corny, but just listen. Enjoy.
Song of the Day: Gas Panic!
I really love Oasis, not ashamed to admit it. When Gas Panic came up randomly in my headphones during my commute, it was clear that I had to remind people of how good these guys were/are. This song is off of the Shoulder of Giants, great album that didn’t get much attention here, but I’d recommend checking it out. For a special bonus, I also added another video from them for ‘D’you know what I mean’, because it’s a super cool video with helicopters and slow motion and stuff that just makes you wish you had your own rock band and had as much swagger as these temperamental and whiny British rock stars. Enjoy.
some helicopter goodness…
Video of the Day: Mexican Grand Prix by Mogwai
Not only is this a good song, but the video is really mesmerizing. As I was watching it, I had the strangest feeling that I knew where it was shot, it turns out there was a good reason for this, I actually have visited this place. See if you can tell where it’s filmed. This one goes to my friend Dara who was my tour guide and hostess in this wonderful city.
Blast from the past: Travis – All I Want To Do Is Rock
What reminded me of this song, I have no idea, but I’m so glad I did. One of the BEST rock songs never heard by the masses, truly tragic. So on this Valentine’s day, I hope you fall in love with the most kickassest songs of all time. Enjoy.
